Yes, a New Year is Here!

Welcome to the New Year! My prayer is that 2022 will be a blessing to each one of you! It’s been 251 days since I’ve updated my site. Quite a lot has happened in that time. I actually put up a maintenance page in late June 2021 because I knew I was going to be busy!

My Dream Project

In late April, a business partner asked me to look at what he called a “networking” project because he saw a lot of IP addresses in the code. Well, it turned out not to be a networking project but synchronized Christmas light show!

If you didn’t know it, the City of Charlestown (Indiana) calls itself “Christmas City.” Every year, they put on an amazing light show in the town square. That’s besides many more holiday activities.

From that point on, I worked on sequencing 18 Christmas songs to play across over 200,000 RGB LEDs. It was amazing to see it all pull together for the Light Up event on November 26, 2021. On December 9, I had the privilege of being on local TV with the rest of the team.

Happy New Year

The Backlog

I didn’t get as much writing done as I had planned. I did explore some new art forms, specifically experimenting with Zentangle. My Drawing Board on Pinterest has a few references and I need to incorporate more.

I got a Silhouette Cameo for Christmas 2019. I’ve made several cards, shadow boxes, and tiny paper houses. I played with quilling and am now working on making paper beads for one of my nieces who adores necklaces.

Parting Thoughts

I have a much better understanding of how to sequence music, so it won’t take me nearly as long for the Christmas 2022 show. We are going to incorporate some additional elements, so I imagine a slight learning curve there!

I’m currently getting ready to review a non-fiction book for a colleague. Then, it’s time to focus on my writing!

I ordered a new computer because my current machine (a vintage 2013 model) is way too slow for some media projects I’m working on. Because of the chip shortage, I may not get it until the end of January.

I’ve been able to automate most of the maintenance tasks for Veracity’s WordPress clients. That saves me hours each week and I don’t have to be constantly patching servers!

Stay tuned, there’s more to come! Drop me a note and let me know what your plans for the new year are!
