Are You The Problem?

It’s human nature for each of us to point the finger at someone or something else when things go wrong.  Such excuses as “that’s the way it’s always been done here,” or “we don’t want to rock the boat,” or worse “I’m the victim here,” are typical first utterances.

It’s amazing how good we look when we compare ourselves with others. We can easily spot their flaws and smugly assure ourselves that we don’t have that marred trait. How wrong we are!

I’m not immune to falling into this trap of pride. I’m learning to catch myself before an excuse flies out of my mouth as to why something was or wasn’t done, etc.  A recent Bible study reading really enforced to me that we shouldn’t compare ourselves to others and draw conclusions. In 2 Corinthians 10:12-18, Paul is addressing those who weren’t looking at their behavior and criticizing him (Paul) instead.

Word Clous of 2 Cor 10:12-18

The faults I see in others’ lives
Are often true of me;
So help me, Lord, to recognize
My own hypocrisy. –Sper
